Niacin TR (Douglas Labs) Each bottle, 100 tablets, each capsule, 100 mg of of niacin (vitamin B3). This is a lower dose version to START a build up slowly over a period of a couple of weeks. For cholesterol management, you probably want to get up to 1000 to 2000 mg (1-2 grams) per day. By starting with a lower dose and gradually increasing that dose, you can help to minimize the flushing/itching histamine reaction that may occur.
Niacin has a long and established history in the management of cholesterol problems, bringing down the bad LDL cholesterol. In addition, it can also INCREASE the HDL fraction which is very often low in people with HIV. HIV infection without antiviral therapy can cause this; add the antivirals, and you may see increasing cholesterol and triglycerides. Niacin is a much less costly and most likely more effective and less dangerous approach than over priced statin drugs. However, it can cause a flushing and itching sensation that many find unpleasant. Brining the dose up gradually over a few days and weeks can greatly reduce these side effects.
Suggested use is to take one or more capsules daily or as directed by your health care provider.
Also contains cellulose, vegetable stearate and silica. Contains no: yeast, wheat gluten, soy protein, milk/dairy, corn, sodium, sugar, starch, artificial coloring, preservatives or flavoring.
